Bring Cheer to a Senior Citizen
Better Life Homecare of St. Lucie County invites the community to bring some comfort and holiday cheer to over 400 senior citizens through its Holiday Angels Gift Drive.
"Research suggests that feelings of loneliness can have a real effect on both mental and physical health," said Antoinette Josue, administrator of Better Life Homecare. "The holidays are a prime time for people to feel lonely and that may be especially true for seniors who can’t travel or have lost their support network.”
Holiday Angels Gift Drive provides a thoughtful gift that seniors might not otherwise receive. "More importantly," Josue said, "we deliver those gifts with a warm friendly face and kind words to remind them that their community cares about them.”
St. Lucie County’s Better Life Homecare has partnered with the Council on Aging of St. Lucie County, Meals on Wheels, St. Lucie County Property Appraiser’s Office, Butterfield’s Pharmacy, East Port Pharmacy, Seacoast Bank and BB&T Bank and Wellmed Medical Group to help with gift collection and distribution.
Place an appropriate unwrapped gift in a Holiday Angels donation box at participating locations until Dec. 10.
Gift suggestions, that must fit in a 10x5x13 gift bag: non-skid socks, neck pillows, magnifying glass, gloves, hot/cold pack, small throw blankets, Eucerin body lotions, candy or cookies and adult games, cards, coloring books or puzzles.
Volunteers and program partners will wrap and deliver gifts in time for the holidays.
