______________________________________________
This week's dharma talk is: SPACIOUSNESS: THE GRANDNESS THAT IS EVERYWHERE

"There is a presence, a silence, a stillness. It is simply here in you, with you. It is the fragrance of your own self. There is nothing to do about this, it is naturally present. This fragrance of peace, this spaciousness, it is the fragrance of your own being." --- Mooji

Lets explore the wonder and simplicity of nothingness; connect with the nothingness of everything. Together we will attempt to understand this concept of empty spaciousness in a real way so we can relax into it and just be.

Category: Arts / Exhibits
McKee’s Ocean Sole Exhibition will be on display throughout the Garden from November 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020. This exhibition features 40 brightly colored, whimsical hand-crafted marine species sculptures made from recycled flip flops that have washed upon the shores of Africa and were created by artisans from Ocean Sole located in Kenya.

The story of each sculpture begins as a flip flop on someone’s feet, which is later discarded and ultimately ends up in our earth’s waterways, landfills and oceans. The artists collect, clean, compress and carve it into beautiful art. The sculptures are made from upcycled EVA rubber flip flops, contact adhesive glue, and in some of the larger sculptures, recycled Styrofoam and wire.

Ocean Sole’s mission is to turn flip flop pollution into inspiring art to promote conservation and create employment. Their focus is 100% on conservation entrepreneurship. Ocean Sole positively impacts over 1,000 Kenyans through the collection of flip flops and direct employment. Their masterpieces create employment for a country that has 40% unemployment, but also sends a message about how we can help our planet, our oceans and people. Revenue generated from the sale of these sculptures helps clean up the beaches, provide vocational and educational programs to Kenyans, and supports conservation efforts. Over 80% of land waste ends up in our seas, impacting both human and marine life. Recycling efforts on the East African coast have made significant improvements to the environment and the quality of life within the areas which Ocean Sole operates and impacts.

· Maureen Joyce: A Massachusetts native, Joyce began painting as an outlet while her children grew up. She was mentored by her uncle and well known Rockport, MA artist Martin Ahearn. Since retiring to Port St. Lucie nine years ago, she has won numerous ribbons in watercolor art shows. Maureen’s favorite subjects are water view landscapes.

· Delia Korman: A native New Yorker, Korman won her first awards for her designs and sketches of women’s apparel before she moved to Port St. Lucie more than 20 years ago. She began studying abstract art under Lea Shaw about 10 years ago and she has not been able to put her paint brush down since. She has exhibited her work at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, the PNC Bank and the Morningside Library.

· Floyd Markowitz: Markowitz has been drawing since he was 4 years old. He studied in the Fine Arts Program at Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. Since moving to Florida in 1997, he’s been active in the Port St. Lucie art community as a member of Port St. Lucie Art League. His work has been recognized along the Treasure Coast, including work selected as part the Port St. Lucie beautification program wrapping Utility Boxes along the Cross Town Expressway.

· Fran Sine: Sine enjoys painting people and drawing figures in a variety of settings. With her preferred medium as acrylic, she incorporates architecture and nature into many of her compositions. Her art has been shown in St. Andrews Art Show and the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, and she has received awards for her work.

· Joe Young: A permanent resident of St. Lucie County since March 2005, Young is inspired by the beauty of nature. He wants to give the viewer the feeling of being there. Painting somewhere between realism and impressionism he wants the viewers’ mind to blend the image together and interpret what they see.

Time: Times Vary
Location: Kilmer Library
Address: 101 Melody Lane
Category: Arts / Exhibits
The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch Librarys ArtSpace hosts works by Treasure Coast resident Katherine A. Taylor now through March 28.
An accomplished mural artist, illustrator and furniture refinisher, Taylor specializes in creating endearing portraits of frogs, fish, birds, chameleons, bugs and other creatures. The purpose of her work is to provide quality artwork, which will spark a spontaneous smile from the viewer and make the world a little happier.
A native of Southern California, Taylor moved to the Treasure Coast in 2018. Her vision is to be awarded a MacArthur Fellowship and provide free happy artwork to childrens hospitals, non-profit organizations, social service organizations and low-income health clinics across the globe. When discouraged about her work, Taylor thinks of all the people who must have told Jim Henson he would never be successful creating stories with a puppet of a frog and a bossy pig and she is then encouraged to keep creating.

Prepared by Curator Harry L. Katz, these exhibitions can be used for teaching or promoting the American topics that reflect Herblock's passions: Education, Democracy, Civil Rights, the Presidency and the Environment (Ever Green). Classic Albums Live-Creedence Clearwater Revival

Classic Albums Live- Indian River County
Date: Thursday February 27, 2020
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location: The Emerson Center
Category: Concert / Live Music
Classic Albums Live (CAL) is a concert series based in Toronto, Ontario, in which musicians perform a classic rock album in its entirety.

The musicians go to great lengths to faithfully recreate every sound on the original album.

The shows are treated like recitals with the album being performed in its entirety followed by a 'greatest hits' set of the featured artist.

Come witness Creedence Clearwater Revivals Chronicle, Vol 1 on Thursday, February 27, 7 p.m. from the Emerson Center stage.

This concert includes every one of CCRs original 20 greatest hits including "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Green River," "Down on the Corner," "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Band," and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" -- plus "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," which became a hit at the same time this double-record compilation was released.

It's a lean, concise collection that tells you everything you need to know about Creedence. Several of the band's individual albums are essential, but Chronicle is not only an excellent introduction to the group, it offers absolute proof that the group was one of the definitive singles' bands of the late '60s.

Tickets sold separately for the 13 LIVE! Performances are from $30 to $95. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.MusicWorksConcerts.com or calling 1-800-595-4849.

Time: 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Location: Riverwalk Center
Address: 600 N. Indian River Drive
Price: $60 per person or $100 per couple
Category: Fund Raiser
Friday, February 28th, strap on your safety belt and get ready to take a trip in the time machine as Learn to Read St. Lucie County presents its 11th Annual Feast For Literacy with an Oldies But Goodies theme. There will be singing, dancing, twisting, shouting, boogying, hustling, and maybe even some techno or a little Safety Dance or two.

The buffet-style diner at the Riverwalk Center in historic downtown Fort Pierce will start at 6 p.m., just in time for a lovely sunset and a chance to enjoy a slow dance with the one you love, a visit to the YMCA with the Village People, a delightful dinner and cash bar, and a live auction all to benefit adult literacy programs in St. Lucie County. DJ Steve Votino will be spinning your favorite hits from the ‘60s to the ‘90s, so wear your dancing shoes and make your favorite fashion statement from three very memorable decades.

Tickets are $60 per person, or $100 per couple, and can be purchased by visiting www.learntoreadslc.org or calling (772) 464-2747.

Learn to Read St. Lucie County was created in 1981, when Dorothy Brennan read a newspaper story about a child who nearly died of an overdose because his mother couldn’t read the instructions on a medication bottle. Brennan couldn’t bear the thought of this tragedy happening to one more family, so the Fort Pierce woman created Learn to Read St. Lucie County, a nonprofit organization which would provide free literacy services. Nearly thirty years and thousands of students later, Learn to Read St. Lucie County honored Brennan by dedicating its new facility as the Dorothy Brennan Learning Center.

Since its inception, Learn to Read St. Lucie has assisted thousands of individuals in St. Lucie County through Literacy Services offered by volunteer tutors who are trained and certified in the Laubach method, a four-level, time-tested curriculum which has assisted millions of adults in gaining independence through reading, even those with little or no preliminary skills. Tutors work one-to-one or with small groups of students depending upon the students’ needs. In addition to literacy assistance, Learn to Read St. Lucie County also provides English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tutoring and classes, United States Citizenship training and assistance, English Conversation classes, and job and career preparation.
To volunteer, or to learn more about the organization, call Learn to Read St. Lucie County at (772) 464-2747 today.
