On October 23rd and 24th historical figures from Fort Pierce’s past will tell their stories all throughout the downtown area. This annual living history tour is a fun way to learn about the people that settled in this area before the conveniences of air conditioning, mosquito control, and modern transportation.

Since there are so many interesting stories to tell, there are four different Ghosts of Fort Pierce Past walking tours. Each tour is approximately 1 hour in length, has 8 to 10 stops, and an actor portraying a person that has lived here in the past.

Each tour is $10 per person 16 & up, $5 ages 5-15, and no charge for children under 5. This is a very popular event that sells out each year so reservations are required. Please note routes and characters are subject to change and participants need to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled tour. These tours last approximately 1 hour each and comfortable shoes are recommended for the roughly ½ mile treks. The first tours leave at 5:30 p.m. with additional tours leaving every 15 minutes until 7:30 p.m. This event is rain or shine.

Time: All Day Event
Location: St. Lucie County
Address: , , FL,
Category: Arts / Exhibits
The Paula A. Lewis Branch Library ArtSpace program features two local residents. Works by Ashley Guevarez and Jonathan Joachim will be on display inside the library Oct. 1 through Dec. 28
St. Lucie County resident Ashley Guevarez is an inspiring artist who has always had a strange cocktail of fantasy and creativity brewing inside her head. As a child, she began to fall in love with nature and started fusing her own fantasies into the world around her. Guevarez expresses this energy through drawing, painting and other various art forms, sharing her creations and offering a glimpse into the world of her imagination.
Jonathan Joachim began his journey into photography in his teenage years, just using his cell phone. Over time, through self-education and practice, his skills improved. His passion for animals and nature inspire him to travel and capture life all around the world from a different point of view. To Joachim, every-thing is beautiful depending on how you portray it. He uses a NikonD5500 DSLR, DJI Mavic Pro drone and GoPro Hero4. His goal is to continue his travels and venture to unique and exotic places. Joachim puts his heart and soul into his work and hopes that everyone will gain something out of it.

Ghosts of Fort Pierce Past Historic Walking Tours

7 Freedom Boat Club of Fort Pierce
Date: Wednesday October 23, 2019 through Thursday October 24, 2019.
Time: Times Vary
Location: Downtown Fort Pierce
Category: Cultural
On October 23rd and 24th historical figures from Fort Pierce’s past will tell their stories all throughout the downtown area. This annual living history tour is a fun way to learn about the people that settled in this area before the conveniences of air conditioning, mosquito control, and modern transportation.

Since there are so many interesting stories to tell, there are FOUR different Ghosts of Fort Pierce Past walking tours. Each tour is approximately 1 hour in length, has between 8-10 stops, and waiting at each stop is an actor portraying a person that has lived here in the past. The Law Firm of Hoskins, Turco, Lloyd & Lloyd has sponsored the event for many years and is committed to helping support the retelling and preservation of Fort Pierce’s history. Fee Yates & Fee joins again this year as well. New benefactor Dyer Chevrolet Fort Pierce has joined in sponsoring the Ghost Walk's 15th year.

The Ghost of Fort Pierce Past tours are a fundraiser for Main Street Fort Pierce. Each tour is $10 per person age 16 & up, $5 ages 5-15, and no charge for children under 5. This is a very popular event that sells out each year so reservations are required. Participants should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled tour and wear comfortable walking shoes. The first tours leave at 5:30 p.m. with additional tours leaving every 15 minutes until 7:30 p.m.

From the #1 bestselling author of Three Days in Moscow and anchor of Fox News Channel’s Special Report with Bret Baier, a gripping history of the secret meeting that set the stage for victory in World War II—the now-forgotten 1943 Tehran Conference, where Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin plotted the war's endgame, including the D-Day invasion.
November 1943: World War II teetered in the balance. The Nazis controlled nearly all of the European continent. Japan dominated the Pacific. Allied successes at Sicily and Guadalcanal had gained modest ground but at an extraordinary cost. On the Eastern Front, the Soviets had already lost millions of lives.

Address: 2520 Orange Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34947
Category: Community
Bring the family to have dinner and help support the UP Center. Dinner is served at 5:30 and all ages are welcome.
Volunteering can teach
A sense of responsibility. Kids and teens learn what it means to make and keep a commitment. They learn how to be on time for a job, do their best, and be proud of the results. They also learn that, ultimately, we're all responsible for the well being of our communities.
That one person can make a difference. A wonderful, empowering message for kids is that they're important enough to have an impact on someone or something else.
The benefit of sacrifice. By giving up a toy to a less fortunate child, a child learns that sometimes it's good to sacrifice and that there are important things besides ourselves and our immediate needs.
Tolerance. Working in community service can bring kids and teens in touch with people of different backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, ages, and education and income levels. They'll learn that even the most diverse individuals can be united by common values.
Job skills. Community service can help young people decide on their future careers. Are they interested in the medical field? Hospitals and clinics often have teenage volunteer programs. Do they love politics? Kids can work on the real campaigns of local political candidates. Learning to work as a team member, taking on leadership roles, setting project goals ... these are all skills that can be gained by volunteering and will serve kids well in any future career.
How to fill idle time wisely. If kids aren't involved in traditional after school activities, community service can be a wonderful alternative.

Smile! You may be on “Candid Camera!” Well maybe not all candid, but if you have been any part of the Centennial Celebration year...be it an organizer, a participant, or an official, you may have had your photo taken by one or more of the volunteer photographers who came forward to help archive the year through photos.
“When we were in the planning stages of this Centennial Celebration, we knew we needed to archive all the events, displays, productions and activities that were planned on the Centennial Calendar,” stated Beverly Paris in charge of marketing and publicity for the year-long event. “Along with Allison McNeal’s social media and webmaster Lisa Doidge, together we put the word out and our phones rang. We started with a few dozen volunteers contributing with still photography and videos, and a year later, eight have remained. Some have moved away and others had changes in their schedules, but the die-hards stayed around to finish off this historic project in the making.” Kim Brady, who works with the Chamber of Commerce of Indian River County, is the coordinator of what photos need to be taken and makes sure that someone is available to take the shot. “The Marketing committee turned out to be a well-oiled machine,” concludes Paris.

The Heritage Center will be bursting with nearly 40 display booths, each one more interesting than the next, when you spend time in historic Downtown Vero Beach during the Centennial Finale Celebration on Saturday, October 26. When the Centennial Parade concludes at noon, the doors open to the Heritage Center where organizations are ready to share information, videos and photography until 4 p.m.
