BBBS Golf-A-Round: A New Way to Play

"BBBS Golf- A-Round: A New Way to Play"

March-April 2021: Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties

(BBBS) took a different approach with their Annual Golf Tournament this year. During the months of March and April, golfers along the Treasure Coast were able to golf at their own course with their chosen foursome, all while supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"Though not the typical golf tournament, we adapted to a new format in Covid times. Foursomes came out and had a great time on their own schedules - one of our teams won the Ladies flight with some terrific scoring. Fluidity in different times helped raise a good amount for BBBS! Thanks to all that played!" says Chris Smith, BBBS Golf-A-Round Committee Member.

The Golf-A-Round not only exceeded funding that is normally generated at the traditional golf event, it also allowed golfers from the tri-county area to support the cause from the comfort of their own course and on their own schedule. All reservations about how the revamped event would be received were put to rest with the success of the event and the positive feedback received from the golfers.

“The participating golfers enjoyed a good competitive game on their home course. The week-long time frame provided some great flexibility in scheduling a tee time. Some of our career women were able to be included in the event for the first time.” said Bonnie Wilson, Golf-A-Round Committee Member.

Over 100 talented golfers participated in the Golf-A-Round, and one foursome in each of the three flights claimed the overall victory after all the verified scores were reported. From our Mixed Flight, we congratulate Donald Nuelle, Felicia Nuelle, Marilyn Sims, and Jeff Atkins who played the Legacy Course at PGA Village and finished with a score of -30. From our Women’s Flight, we congratulate Lorena Cook, Elizabeth Parker, Robin Bessin, and Sue McSorley who played the Moorings at Hawk’s Nest and finished with a score of -21. From our Men’s Flight, we congratulate Sandy Samson, John Gammino, Wayne Samson, and Richard Duch who played at the Vero Beach Country Club and
finished with a score of -18.

We are so grateful to our BBBS Golf-A-Round Committee Members and event supporters for embracing this new format and making it such a success. We would also like to thank our BBBS Golf-A-Round Sponsors: Publix Super Markets Charities, Kendacar Foundation, Mr. Brad Lorimier, and the many other amazing individuals and organizations who helped make this a record breaking
