The celebration of the 68th anniversary of Soroptimist International of Stuart (SIS) was a joyful recognition of the role the nonprofit has played in the growth of Stuart as well as an exciting look into its future plans and goals.

Carmela’s Brick Oven Pizza was the venue for the November 17th event, which was attended by members, guests and two previous winners of Soroptimist’s life-changing awards.

Sabby Hightower, who received the 2019 Live Your Dreams award, shared how she was able to overcome personal tragedies and obtain both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while working and raising four young children as a single mom. She currently is pursuing her Ph.D. and cited Soroptimist of Stuart for giving her the financial and emotional boost she needed to get started on her path.

Lorie Willis, a 2022 recipient of a Woman in Transition grant, has obtained her GED and is currently enrolled in IRSC studying Computer Science. Another single mom, Willis said that she would have never had the confidence to follow her dream if it hadn’t been for the support she got from Soroprimist of Stuart.

Mary Ann Searle, president of the nonprofit said, “These important awards plant the seeds of confidence in young girls and women.”

Donna Linton highlighted SIS’s prestigious history - not just the support it has given the local community, but international endeavors, as well.

The mission of Soroptimist International of Stuart is to enhance the lives of others by promoting friendships, providing community service and applying our skills, talents and resources towards the betterment of women and their families.
