Fort Pierce Sunrise Kiwanis' 31st Annual Golf Shoot Out started with a big 'BANG!" With the firing of a small yet booming cannon signaling the shotgun start, a sold-out field of golfers enthusiastically hit the links for the Saturday morning's four-person scramble tournament at the Indian Hills Golf Course in Fort Pierce. “This event brought our community together, bringing a total of $15,000.00 to give back to the children of St. Lucie County. As always, thank you to everyone for their very generous contributions!”, said Michael J. Pelitera, President of Fort Pierce Sunrise Kiwanis 2021-22.

Kiwanis is a global organization that seeks to improve the world, one child and one community at a time. With its dedicated volunteers, this local chapter lives by the motto "Serving the Children of St. Lucie County." Proceeds from the Golf Shoot Out support that goal and help fund several youth programs such as the WPSL Christmas Kids Program, St. Lucie County Fair's Education Exhibits, Key Clubs at Fort Pierce Central and Westwood high schools, and Lincoln Park Academy, the Fort Pierce Main Street Christmas Parade, plus others.

Sponsors included Attorney Steve Hoskins, Indian River State College, OCI Consulting Engineers, Tito's Vodka, Crabby's Dockside, Walmart Distribution, who provided several premium prizes, and Lott Insurances Services. Frankie Lott cooked up his signature batch of Cajun jambalaya for lunch and Sunrise City Cafe sponsored breakfast.

This year, Fort Pierce Sunrise Kiwanis, with the support of the City of Fort Pierce, is a driving force behind the upcoming rebuild of the kids' park at Jaycee Park on South Hutchinson Island. Children from the community provided essential renderings of their ideas of the parks ultimate design. The park will be inclusive of children with disabilities!

Join in the fun of the Ultimate Design Reveal at Jaycee Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11. The family-fun celebration includes a BBQ, games, face painting, and a showcase of the kid's designs that helped develop the final plan.

In the fall, the entire community is invited to 'build the park' in just one week! Please get in touch with TomPerona@gmail.com to help sponsor this much-needed community resource!

Fort Pierce Sunrise Kiwanis meets on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. at Crabby's Dockside in Fort Pierce. For more information, please visit FPSunriseKiwanis.com
