Elev8Hope Bike Event a “Wheel” Success
By Jackie Holfelder
This Christmas, hundreds of local Martin County children found bikes, toys and holiday cheer under their trees.
Elev8Hope partnered with Martin County Firefighters IAF Local 2959, firefighters and two collaborating businesses to ensure their dream became a reality on December 19 at the Martin County Fairgrounds.
Bin Deals and Reed Child Care Center of Stuart provided immeasurable assistance. Bin Deals donated 100 bikes and Reed Child Care Center donated $1,000, to use towards the purchase of additional bicycles.
Elev8Hope CEO Rinamarie Shpiruk received a call from a team of “angels” wanting to help assemble the more than 150 bicycles that needed to be put together.
Martin County Fire Rescue and the non-profit worked together seamlessly to prepare them for their special recipients.
Elev8Hope was honored to dedicate its 2020 bicycle build to the late Captain Scott Schlawiedt. Captain Schlawiedt was a former Martin County fire captain and his love for the community was palpable during the bicycle build.
In addition to their immeasurable help in assembling bikes, Martin County Firefighters IAFF Local 2959 had another surprise. Scott Risk, the union president, presented Rinamarie Shpiruk and Elev8Hope with a $10,000 donation.
