Our Mission

Engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments, specifically as it relates to litter prevention, improving recycling and beautification.

What We Do

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful (KPSLB) is a tax exempt government organization, offering community support and education regarding issues that affect the health and appearance of our environment.

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful is dedicated to education and empowerment of citizens and businesses by offering the resources to take action as environmental stewards of litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification. KPSLB is a local affiliate of the Keep Florida Beautiful program and the national Keep America Beautiful program.

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful oversees the City’s Adopt-a-Street Program, manages the Buddy Bench Project, hosts several annual City-wide events, conducts neighborhood cleanups, participates in outreach events, monitors a Litter Hotline (772-871-7000) and the Litter Eradication Action Plan (LEAP) and provides presentations to business, schools, civic organizations and HOA’s.

Adopt A Street!

The Adopt-a-Street program reduces the number of streets that rely on city resources for maintenance. When businesses and individuals assume the responsibility of maintaining specific streets within the city, not only do they free up city resources, but they help create colorful and creative green spaces throughout our city.

We have a total of 917 Center line, linear miles of roadway in the city. Currently, more than 175 miles of city streets are litter-free thanks to over 170 groups and individuals who have adopted these public roadways—about one mile per group. With more than 200,000 people in the City, it would be easy for the remaining 742 miles of city-maintained roads to become just as litter-free. Removing litter before it reaches the city storm system also reduces the amount of storm water runoff pollution, thus keeping our wetlands, lakes and rivers cleaner.

Drive-Thru Tree Giveaway!

The City will give away an assorted variety of trees that are native to Florida. The KPSLB Committee hopes to protect native plants for future generations and encourage public awareness about the need to maintain Port St. Lucie’s natural beauty. This event is a vehicle drive thru. Trees will be placed into resident vehicles by City staff members.  NO WALK-UPS WILL BE ALLOWED. Trees are given away on a first-come, first-served basis to City of Port St. Lucie resident (ID’S REQUIRED), WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. Event ends when supply of trees run out.

Buddy Bench

The City is encouraging residents and community members to collect plastic bottle caps – which typically cannot be recycled locally – and help Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful (KPSLB) re-use and transform them into community “buddy benches”.

In 2020, KPSLB will work with five schools: St. Lucie West K-8, Rivers Edge Elementary, Savanna Ridge, PACE Center for Girls, and Northport K-8.

Each school needs to collect 200 pounds of caps to create one bench. Once collected, KPSLB sends the caps to Green Tree Plastics, based in Evansville, IN, who have created a program designed to fabricate the benches to help educate students about recycling. Community members are invited and encouraged to help the students reach their goal.
