Our Mission

Engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments, specifically as it relates to litter prevention, improving recycling and beautification.

What We Do

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful (KPSLB) is a tax exempt government organization, offering community support and education regarding issues that affect the health and appearance of our environment.

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful is dedicated to education and empowerment of citizens and businesses by offering the resources to take action as environmental stewards of litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification. KPSLB is a local affiliate of the Keep Florida Beautiful program and the national Keep America Beautiful program.

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful oversees the City’s Adopt-a-Street Program, manages the Buddy Bench Project, hosts several annual City-wide events, conducts neighborhood cleanups, participates in outreach events, monitors a Litter Hotline (772-871-7000) and the Litter Eradication Action Plan (LEAP) and provides presentations to business, schools, civic organizations and HOA’s.

Adopt-a-Street

Adopt-a-Street is a local litter prevention program sponsored by Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful that works to involve community volunteers in local roadside clean-up efforts. The goal of the program is to reduce roadside litter in an effort to keep our community clean and beautiful. Community organizations and/or volunteers accept the responsibility of regular litter pickups on their “adopted” local roadway.

We have a total of 917 Center line, linear miles of roadway in the city. Currently, more than 154 miles of city streets are litter-free thanks to over 146 groups and individuals who have adopted these public roadways—about one mile per group. With more than 200,000 people in the City, it would be easy for the remaining 757 miles of city-maintained roads to become just as litter-free. Removing litter before it reaches the city storm system also reduces the amount of storm water runoff pollution, thus keeping our wetlands, lakes and rivers cleaner.

Adopt A Street 2020

Buddy Bench

The City is encouraging residents and community members to collect plastic bottle caps – which typically cannot be recycled locally – and help Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful (KPSLB) re-use and transform them into community “buddy benches”.

In 2020, KPSLB will work with five schools: St. Lucie West K-8, Rivers Edge Elementary, Savanna Ridge, PACE Center for Girls, and Northport K-8.

Each school needs to collect 200 pounds of caps to create one bench. Once collected, KPSLB sends the caps to Green Tree Plastics, based in Evansville, IN, who have created a program designed to fabricate the benches to help educate students about recycling. Community members are invited and encouraged to help the students reach their goal.
