In support of World Environment Day (June 2), Southern Eagle Distributing has announced plans for three major events. The company is sponsoring the Lionfish Round-up (June 3), Beach Clean-up (June 17) and Paint the Town (June 17).
The lionfish is an invasive species that has the potential to harm reef ecosystems. It is a predator that competes for food with snapper and grouper. Â They have no known predators and produce roughly two million eggs a year. The goal of the round-up is to collect as many of the lionfish as possible and protect the reefs.
The Beach Clean-up and Paint the Town are volunteer projects that involve all Southern Eagle employees. The company is dedicated to making a positive difference in our community. On June 17, the staff is volunteering to paint (5) houses in Urban Development area of Ft. Pierce as part of the Cities initiative. A crew of 20 will be volunteering at each house to paint the exteriors.
Also, that same day the staff is volunteering to clean up a section of the beach. "Our beaches are beautiful when they are not covered with litter," stated Philip Busch, President of Southern Eagle Distributing. "We hope everyone will do their share. If you see litter, pick it up and put it in a trash container."
