Friends in Pink to honor Super Heroes of Breast Cancer at Luncheon
Super Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They don’t all wear capes or fly through the air. Not all of them can leap a building in a single bound or stop a bullet with the palm of their hand. In fact, some Super Heroes don’t even know they are one. These Super Heroes include survivors, those still fighting, healthcare providers, volunteers, supporters, caregivers and donors.
On Saturday, October 7, Friends in Pink will celebrate the Super Heroes of Breast Cancer at their annual luncheon. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the PGA Rotunda. The Rotunda is located at the PGA Learning Center, 8565 Commerce Centre Drive, Port St. Lucie. Tickets are $55 per person.
The community is invited to come out for a day of celebration, filled with joy and appreciation and of course, hope. The main speaker will be Dr. Gene DeLucia, DO who will talk about Nutrigenomics and oxidated stress at the cellular level and how it is relative to disease. Guests will be treated to a wonderful lunch menu created by PGA Culinary Chef Josh Cobbs and a pink champagne toast by local breast cancer survivor Pat Alley. A selfie photo booth will be available for souvenirs. A silent auction with a wide variety of items including baskets, paintings, an autographed golf bag, gift cards and certificates for personal services will be held. Musical entertainment will be provided by the very popular Jazzy Boys and Mia.
Friends in Pink President Cheryl Caldwell said the importance of this particular luncheon cannot be stressed enough. “Everyone knows that there is a healthcare crisis in our country,” she said. “But I’m not sure most people understand exactly what is happening in our very own communities. Friends in Pink has had a 400% increase in demand for services in the last year. 400%! That means we are getting more and more requests from people fighting breast cancer for help with their medical treatments. Remember, on the Treasure Coast, the average cost of surviving breast cancer is $350,000. With deductibles and co-pays, even those with insurance often cannot afford their lifesaving treatment.”
Friends in Pink pays the bills of those fighting breast cancer. That’s the message that Caldwell wants to get out. “When Friends in Pink was founded 12 years ago, the mission was that no-one in our community should die of breast cancer simply because they cannot afford medical treatment. No-one should have to opt out of a chemo or radiation treatment or surgery because they cannot afford the deductible. We pay for those deductibles, or medicine or medical treatment so they can get the lifesaving treatment they need.”
Sponsors of the event include: John B. Fasano, M.D., Martin Health Systems, Rick Carroll Insurance Agency, Treasure Coast Lexus, Carroll Collins Bail Bonds, Deb Doherty, PA Keller Williams Treasure Coast, and Bobby’s Pizza.
