St. Lucie County Finalizes 3-Year Plan For Sales Tax Projects

Thanks to the voter approved half-cent sales tax, St. Lucie County’s Public Works Department is moving forward with a three-year plan to tackle the outstanding infrastructure needs throughout the county to provide Better Roads, More Sidewalks and Cleaner Rivers.

“The county, as well as the two cities, are going to make sure we honor your trust in local government by making sure we get all of our projects completed on time and with transparency,” said St. Lucie County Commissioner Chair Linda Bartz.

While revenue from the sales tax isn’t expected to arrive back to St. Lucie County until March, the Public Works staff already has plans to begin projects this month, including resurfacing and repaving, as well as permitting for larger projects including bridge replacements and stormwater drainage improvements.

St. Lucie County’s three-year plan includes roughly $26 million worth of work:

Repaving: (*pre-funded projects)

  • Prima Vista Boulevard (Airoso Boulevard to U.S. 1)
  • Atlantic Beach Boulevard (Shorewinds Drive to Southern Terminus)
  • Avenue Q (Angle Road to North 25th Street)

  • Dar Road*
  • Delaware Avenue (Hartman Road to 17th Street)
  • East Seminole Road (North Boulevard to Miramar Avenue)

  • Johnston Road (Angle Road North to Chip Seal Section)

Water Quality Projects:

  • Harmony Heights - Phase 1 North
  • Lakewood Park Stormwater Improvements

  • Oleander Avenue Sidewalk (Midway Road to South Market Ave)

Intersection & Roadway Improvements:

  • Edwards Road (US 1 to Oleander Avenue
  • Traffic Signal Upgrades
  • Traffic Communications Conduit and Fiber
  • Indian River Drive Restriping (South County Line to Citrus Ave)

St. Lucie County Commissioners have appointed a seven-member Citizens Oversight Committee to monitor the progress of these projects as well as the revenues that are being generated by the additional half-cent sale tax. The advisory board’s first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. in Conference Room 3 of the St. Lucie County Administration Complex, 2300 Virginia Avenue.

Information about the Half-Cent-Sales Tax projects will be posted quarterly online at along with video updates provided on SLCTV (Comcast 28 / U-Verse 99) and on the county’s various social media channels. All projects being funding by the sales tax will be marked with signage, letting voters know that these funds are being utilized.
