SLC Summer Reading Challenge Returns!

St. Lucie County’s Summer Reading Challenge Returns June 6 with Digital Logs

  1. LUCIE COUNTY – Help your students avoid the “summer slide” by encouraging them to join St. Lucie County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge. Once again this program features a digital online tracking app to make it even easier for students to log their reading hours for a chance to win prices including a free Kindle Fire or a $25 gift card.

The digital Summer Reading Challenge “Tails and Tales” runs June 4 through Aug. 7 with three different categories/age groups for students. Google and Apple users can install the "Beanstack Tracker" on your phone or tablet and search for "St. Lucie" to sign up to track your reading digitally, earning virtual badges for each hour read.

Complete the challenge, download your special certificate and you are automatically entered into the Grand Prize Drawing. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade need to read at least 12 hours over the summer and bring their completed log to any branch library or log the hours on Beanstack.

Teens can take part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Young adults (grades 6-12) need to read 20 hours and tell us your favorite moment in each book.

Families with infants and preschoolers can also join the competition. The Read With Me Log is for newborns to pre-k children. Parents read to or with their children for 12 hours. The Read With Me participants will be entered into a drawing for a “Curious George” stuffed animal and board book collection; one at each of the seven locations.

Every child that completes their logs will be entered into the grand prize drawing for the Kindle Fire or $25 gift card on Friday, Aug. 13.

St. Lucie County’s Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored the Friends of the Library. For more information all the St. Lucie County Library staff at 772-462-6873 or visit: www.stlucieco.gov/library.
