Dream Home Answers Local Familys Prayers

Dream Home Answers Local Familys Prayers

The Treasure Coast Builders Association, in a fantastic collaboration with St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity and the City of Port Saint Lucie, is building a dream home in just seven days. The “Dream Home” will soon be Home Sweet Home for Chris and Latasha Blackmon, and their three kids.

Chris is an Army National Guardsman and he and Latasha both work at the Walmart Distribution Center. They are devoted, hard-working parents who struggle to provide for their family. With student loans and medical bills, it seems that every time they take a step forward, they end up taking two steps backward. Chris and Latasha, along with their three children, Christopher Jr. 9; Ivan, 8; and Londyn 4 months old, currently live in an unsafe, dilapidated two-bedroom house in a dangerous neighborhood. Every day they live in fear for their children’s safety. Their house has been broken into, their roof leaks, the bedrooms have no doors, there is a frequent rodent and pest infestation problem, and the sound of gunshots is all too common an occurrence. The Blackmon family dreams of a new home and an answer to their prayers.

The Dream Home will be built on one of seven city-owned residential lots recently allocated to St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity. This partnership with the City of Port St. Lucie goes a long way in creating affordable home ownership in Port Saint Lucie. As the price of rent increases in our community, families find opportunities increasingly more difficult to find affordable housing.

“The amazing generosity of the members of the Treasure Coast Builders Association is making it possible to create a very affordable homeownership opportunity for a local veteran and his family,” said Bob Calhoun, Executive Director of St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity. “This is truly a Dream Home for the Blackmon Family and a testimony to the TCBA’s steadfast commitment to this community.”

A BIG Thank You to our Foundation Sponsors – Homecrete Homes, Kirchman Construction, Mancil’s Complete Sitework, Artistic Visions, LLC, Daltile, and Coastal Building Contractors Inc.
