Soft Skills Trainings Get Clubkids in the Weeds

Soft Skills Trainings Get Clubkids in the Weeds

Give a boy a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man to Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime

Based on the old proverb above the Clubkids of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County are about to get an awesome opportunity to learn a skill that can be part of the rest of their lives as long as they don’t live in a desert.

The team at Everglades Equipment Group in Fort Pierce is no stranger to embedding themselves in the community by giving back to organizations that can utilize their services and machinery. This time, through an introduction from Mike Lafreniere of Nature’s Ground Landscaping, they stepped up for Club kids with a very generous donation of two John Deere riding lawn mowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers and most important, the training to use and maintain the equipment.

“Being able to give the kids a path like this through landscaping is a great lifelong skill. Whether they turn it into a business venture one day or just use what they learned to maintain their own home it will invoke a great sense of pride,” said Mitch Burney, site manager of Everglades Equipment Group.

The Club kids will also have the opportunity to see other career opportunities with Everglades Equipment Group. “We look forward to having your teenagers spend a day with our service, sales and tech team to shadow for a day and see first-hand what our workflow is like,” said Burney.

“Through our partnerships with CareerSource Research Coast and Economic Development Council, and now Everglades Equipment Group, we are setting our members up to have the soft skills necessary to be successful in the workforce. These are the kind of relationships we want parents to take notice of to entrust us with their children after school,” said Will Armstead, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County.
