Salvation Army’s Wings of Hope Resounding Success
STUART, FL – The Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary recently held their 20th Wings of Hope Luncheon to raise awareness and funding for its Compassion House shelter for homeless women and children. In spite of a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic, the event exceeded expectations and raised more than $63,000 for the shelter.
Guests at the event, held this year at Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa in Jensen Beach, enjoyed champagne cocktails while bidding on over 70 silent auction items before being ushered in for lunch. Guest speaker Rob Lord, retiring President of Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, discussed the challenges the local health care system has faced during the pandemic and the health disparities many low-income households encounter. Local auctioneer and emcee K. C. Daniel kept the program light, finishing off the luncheon with a live auction of a few big-ticket items.
Much of the support for the event came from the many sponsors, including Jack and Char Meyering; The Lichtenberger Foundation; The Edward P. and Juanita J. Henson Foundation; Team Parks; Reed and Joan Smith; Bob and Carol Weissman; Pat and Ted Tiemeyer; Mrs. John Grimmer; Kathy Span; Agler Kitchen, Bath & Floors, Inc; Custom Pool & Spa Mechanics; Florida Power & Light; Ralph Parks; Brenda and Albert Auer; One & All, Inc and Attorney Philip DeBerard.
“I want to express my extreme gratitude to my fellow Women’s Auxiliary members, donors, guests and local vendors that helped make our luncheon and silent auction a success!” says luncheon chair Andrea Raffinan-Shaffer. “the generosity and belief in our mission helps ensure a brighter future for the women and children of Compassion House.”
The Salvation Army’s Compassion House provides more than 11,000 nights of shelter to homeless women and their children every year. More than just an overnight shelter, the program provides support and counseling tailored to the needs of each woman to help them find and maintain stable employment and housing.
