On Saturday June 24th, an event will be held that is designed to highlight the fact that Colorado Avenue in downtown Stuart is a beautiful, very pedestrian-friendly street. Businesses along Colorado Avenue from the 300 block to the 800 block are holding OPEN HOUSE and welcoming Crawlers to discover their businesses. Each participating crawl stop will offer free refreshments, goodies, giveaways, and special offers to the crawl participants. This event is the brainchild of Priscilla Speicher, owner of NOTES Music Room & Wine Bar at 872 Colorado Ave.
"When people say, "downtown Stuart" they are referring to the blocks and businesses on the other side of the Circle, starting at Duffy's and fanning out from there. Thousands upon thousands of people go into downtown Stuart either one time or frequently, and it never occurs to them to walk up and down Colorado Avenue. Yet Colorado is lined with great businesses, offering both goods and services. I'm working to promote the idea of strolling THE AVE, and discovering these businesses," she explains.
With NOTES Music Room as the anchor business up near Federal Highway, and Snooty Hooty's at the other end, the walk between these two businesses only takes 9 to 12 minutes, depending on your walking speed. The walk is a very pleasant one, as Colorado Avenue is lined with lighting, landscaping, benches, and scenic spots.
Priscilla elaborates, "The city did a great job of beautifying and developing Colorado Avenue from the Circle up to Federal Highway. The sidewalks are wide, the bridge and statues and fountain are very pretty, and yet these are underappreciated. People drive right by them, focused on Downtown, and don't notice what's lining both sides of Colorado Avenue. We have fabulous thrift shops, eateries, retailers, legal and financial service businesses, bath and plumbing, interior decor shops, a florist, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, banks, ceramics, a farm and fresh produce, delicious food and drink - there are great places to visit and all of them are walking distance from each other."
Priscilla recommends parking in the Kiwanis Lot near the circle then walking west up Colorado Ave. toward Federal. Go up one side and down the other some times of course, stopping in at NOTES, she smiles. "I look forward to the day when I see tourists and locals strolling THE AVE, and it becomes a vibrant, artsy, cool addition to the downtown experience."
The Colorado Crawl takes place from 4 to 7 PM on Sat. June 24th. Must be 21 to participate. Start at NOTES, pay $10, which includes a beer, wine, coffee or soda and signature glass to keep. Then follow the list of businesses along the Crawl, pop into all of them and enjoy the reception! Those completing all stops will be entered in a drawing for a bottle of fine wine from NOTES and a NOTES T-shirt.
