The City of Fort Pierce continues to closely monitor Hurricane Dorian and is exhausting all efforts to ensure that our city is ready for potential impacts, we urge residents to do the same.

As of Friday at 9:30 AM, here is the latest information:

City Closures

City Hall and all city facilities will be closed to the public effective today at 12:00 PM until further notice. All events at city facilities taking place this weekend after 12:00 PM today are cancelled, including shows at the Sunrise Theatre.

Schools

St. Lucie Public Schools:

St. Lucie Public Schools will follow an early release schedule (dismissed 2 hours early) today, Friday, August 30th. There will be no after-school activities. This includes the cancellation of all programs by partnering agencies such as Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, etc. All schools will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for the Labor Day Holiday. All school activities and athletics are suspended effective Friday, August 30 until further notice. SLPS will notify parents and staff about the schedule for Tuesday, September 3.

Indian River State College:

Indian River State College (all campuses) will be closed as of ‚Ä™Friday, August 30 at 5:00 PM until further notice.  

Public Information Helpline

St. Lucie County’s Emergency Operations Center has opened its Public Information Lines ahead of Hurricane Dorian. That number is 772-460-HELP (4357). The Public Information Lines will reopen today, August 30 and Saturday, August 31 from 8 AM to 8 PM. Please reserve 911 for emergency calls.

Evacuations

While no evacuations have been ordered, residents living in a low-lying areas, in a manufactured/mobile homes or on the barrier island should begin making evacuation plans now. 

Shelters

Due to the uncertainty of the storm, the timeframe for opening shelters remains to be determined. However, residents with special needs and pets must pre-register. For details, visit St. Lucie County’s website at:

Solid Waste

Public Works will continue to pick up solid waste until Saturday, August 31 at 12:00 PM, weather permitting. Now is not the time to do major yard work and we are asking residents to please refrain from cutting down vegetation or doing major projects until the storm passes. Residents should not place any additional debris at the curb. 

City Marina

The Fort Pierce City Marina is no longer accepting any additional vessels until further notice.

Building Inspections

The Building Department has suspending regular inspections until further notice. We will complete inspections that have been scheduled for Friday, August 30. If the storm continues as predicted, the Building Department will not be accepting regular inspections until further notice. 

Parking Garage

We have received several questions regarding parking in the city’s parking garage; the garage is open to the public until filled at your own risk.

Communications

We are committed to keeping our residents safe and informed - all public notices will be provided on the city’s website at www.cityoffortpierce.com, social media channels and Fort Pierce TV Channel 27. Residents are also urged to sign up for St. Lucie County's Alert St. Lucie program to get emergency notifications sent directly to their phone, email or text: www.stlucieco.gov/Alert

Residents can subscribe to receive updates through the “Weather Alert” feed dedicated to sharing information regarding Hurricane Dorian on the city’s website: https://cityoffortpierce.com/AlertCenter.aspx?CID=Hurricane-Dorian-11. The City of Fort Pierce will send an AM and PM notices each day.
