The recent groundbreaking, Raise the Walls celebration of the Tradition Preparatory High School is a W.I.S.H. come true for St. Lucie County students. The school, part of the Renaissance Charter family of schools, including two K-8 facilities located in St. Lucie and Tradition, all managed by Charter Schools U.S.A., is set to open in August 2021 and welcome 9th 10th-grade students in its first year of operation.
Nearly 100 guests, including many local dignitaries, sponsors, and a few potential future students, attended the exciting kick-off event.
In addition to delightful performances by Renaissance Tradition's chorus, attendees also enjoyed a sneak peek of a few musical numbers from Renaissance St. Lucie's upcoming production of The Little Mermaid, plus a couple of dance movements.
With more than 20 years in the Charter School U.S.A. organization, Teresa Brown will serve as T.P.H.S.'s first principal. "My goal is to have the most innovative high school on the Treasure Coast!"
Charter School U.S.A. Founder and C.E.O. Jonathan Hage said, "This school will not be like anything you've ever seen before! The unique Wellness, Innovation, Science, and Health, W.I.S.H., model prepares students for college, career, and life! "
Students will have the opportunity to earn college credits through the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education or A.I.C.E. program and Advanced Placement classes.
"A charter school, such as Tradition Prep, provides an option beyond a student's zoned high school," said Hage. "What is best for the student? Perhaps the curriculum, class size, etc., these things are uniquely designed to provide the parent a choice and the student a custom education that best fits their learning style. It's about results!"
Because extra-curricular activities play a vital role in developing life and leadership skills, a full array of clubs, arts, athletics, and performing arts will be available. Tradition Prep will have a Black Box Theatre, the first school in St. Lucie County to have one.
With its Pirate mascot at the helm, community-involved events will include Talk Like a Pirate Day, a Pirate 5k run, and more!
Port St. Lucie City Councilwoman said, "It's critical for the success of our children and the growth of our community to have innovative schools such as the Tradition Preparatory High School!"
Tradition Prep is a tuition-free 9-12 public charter high school. Enrollment is currently limited to 9th and 10th-grade students.
