Lakeside Stroll Supporters Brave the Cold to Support Treasure Coast Hospice

Braving the coldest morning of January 2022, supporters of Treasure Coast Hospice and those grieving the loss of a beloved friend or family member arrived fully bundled up for the organization's annual Lakeside Stroll. Designed to encourage hope and promote healing to those working through their grief journey, the 1.2-mile walk around the picturesque lake at Tradition in Port St. Lucie provides a sense of peace while helping to release some of the pain that accompanies loss.

The many therapeutic approaches for sharing special memories and expressing love included opportunities to post photos and handwritten messages on the Memory Wall, place memorial signs along the walking trail, and contribute personal notes written on fabric strips as part of Treasure Coast Hospice's ongoing commemorative tapestry.

Dance instructor Toni Szparaga and her True Crew Company dance team led the pre-walk warm-up and performed a memorial dance presentation for the fourth consecutive year. This year, the event took on even more meaning for Szparaga.

"In August, my life was thrown into a whirlwind when my mother, the ‘rock’ of my family, became terminally ill. Within a month, she became reliant on my help. I don't know what I would do without the support of Treasure Coast Hospice,” said Szparaga. "From weekly nurse visits, music therapy, massage therapy, help getting prescriptions and medical items, visits from the clergy and social workers who talk with my mother and father to help them get through this challenging time, they do it all.”

Various specialty tents provided additional information about Treasure Coast Hospice and its programs such as Treasured Pets, We Honor Veterans, volunteer opportunities, and Virtual Reality, a new program being offered for hospice patients and their family members.

A designated area, sponsored by Remnant Construction, hosted various kids' activities.

Dozens of raffle items were up for grabs and helped raise additional funds to support Treasure Coast Hospice Grief Support Services. Among the many services available, Treasure Coast Hospice grief counselors offer individual and group counseling, youth and family programs, crisis response, educational workshops, and Camp Good Grief, a youth bereavement camp, to all those in need in our community.

Event sponsors included Dignity Memorial, OxyPros Plus, Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, The Estate, Trust & Elder Law Firm, Port St. Lucie Elks 2658, Fort Pierce Elks 1520, Marsh McLennon, Remnant Construction, Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, The Sovana at Stuart, Max Living, Tradition Parkway Dental Care, Living Faith Church, St. Lucie Draft House, True Crew Dance Co., DJ T-Bone, Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service, Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Co., and Gordon Food Service.
