This permanent exhibit will explore the life and times of John Ashley and his family. Born in the 1880's and raised in the wild west atmosphere that pervailed over Florida's East Coast and the Everglades. Joh Ashley turned to a life of crime after being accused and he was tried numerous times for the murder of Seminole Indian De Sotto Tiger in 1911. During this 1.5-hour golf-cart tour, participants will explore our 144-acre waterfront campus, learn about our history, hear highlights of the cutting-edge research being conducted by our marine scientists and engineers, and discover the impact that our work has on their everyday lives. MartinArts is proud to present a unique collection of original works, created by its Member Artists, in Be Squared - A Members Exhibition. The exhibition opens June 10 at MartinArts Court House Cultural Center Gallery, 80 S.E. Ocean Blvd., in Downtown Stuart. $5 Donation is requested at the door.

This exhibit, on display through July 23, will showcase the diverse talents of 52 artists who are all members of MartinArts. Unique to the collection, is that each piece is created and presented in a square shape. Throughout the exhibition, a special selection of 8x8" works, created and donated by participating artists in a variety of mediums, will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit arts education programs in Martin County.

The public is invited to preview this exciting show and meet the artists, at Be Squared-A Members Exhibitions Opening Reception, 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, June 10.

Free, silent meditation group led by member experienced in Jewish and Zen meditation. No experience necessary. Casual, fun atmosphere. No dogma, politics, chanting or preaching. We learn how to teach ourselves. No New Age cliques or concepts. All faiths welcome. We just sit and meditate. Plain and simple. Bring a meditation or yoga mat and cushion. If a mat and cushion aren't available, bring a small throw rug and two pillows. If a throw rug and pillows aren't available, we can show you how to do walking meditation. It's time to test your spelling knowledge once again! The 16th Annual Adult Spelling Bee will be on June 29 at Sailfish Brewing Company. If you mix up "i before e", you can become an event partner and watch the master spellers compete.

Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy the competition because $1 from every beer sold will be donated to the charity chosen by our celebrity judge. Make sure to vote for your favorite judge by June 24!

MartinArts Court House Cultural Center Gallery is open Tuesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

MartinArts has served our community since 1980 and as the local arts agency since 1986. We are housed in a county-owned historic building (formerly the county's first courthouse) the Court House Cultural Center.
