The Paula A. Lewis Branch Library is pleased to host a touring exhibition of work by Washington Post editorial cartoonist Herb Block focusing on Civil Rights on display now through early March.

Block, famously known as "Herblock,” is among the world’s best known and most admired political cartoonists. Born on Oct. 13, 1909, the native Chicagoan spent his 72-year career fighting against abuses of the powerful.

Sponsored by The Herb Block Foundation, the goal of this exhibition is to promote Herblock's efforts to defend the rights and freedoms of Americans through his political cartoons. Prepared by Curator Harry L. Katz, these exhibitions can be used for teaching or promoting the American topics that reflect Herblock's passions: Education, Democracy, Civil Rights, the Presidency and the Environment (Ever Green). Together all five exhibits present a fascinating history of Herblock's 72 year career, spanning from 1929 to the new millennium.
