Location: The Tin Roof Bar and Grill
Address: 5701 Orange Ave., Fort Pierce, FL, 34947
Category: Games / Tournaments
The St. Lucie County Junior Cattlemen is open to those 21 and under who are producers and non-producers and want to serve as an essential part of Florida’s cattle industry. The members of the St. Lucie County Jr. Cattlemen attend ranch tours, field days, Junior Florida Cattlemen's Association Point Series Shows, meetings, and state leadership competitions (public speaking, team marketing, and quiz bowl). At county meetings they discuss current issues facing the cattle industry and how they can better educate our community on a healthy Beef diet and animal care. One of their most enjoyable activities is giving back to our community. Each year at Christmas, they get together on a Saturday and together purchase gifts for needy children. This coming spring, they would like to tour to a couple colleges and cattle ranches to see how others manage their cow/calf operations.

It only takes one instant to change life forever and David Souza knows this all too well. It started with a back ache. Then the back ache didn’t go away. It got so bad that Dave left work in Palm Beach and went to the emergency room at Tradition Hospital. (Yes, the guy who walked around with a broken femur for six weeks could not stand the pain of a back ache.) That hospitalization did not provide any answers and that was Dave’s last day of work.

Over the next few weeks David became yellow; jaundice. Back to the hospital he went. This time a diagnosis was made and it was life-changing. The doctor said, “You have pancreatic cancer”. Four words that still remain devastating four months later (fight #1).

Dave went through one of the most complex surgeries there is; a Whipple procedure. It sounds like a silly name, but there is nothing silly about it. More tests were done during more hospitalizations. Then came the chemo and even more hospitalizations. Then, his insurance company stopped paying for his care (fight #2).

David, the guy everyone could always count on found himself needing support in a way he never thought he would. David, the guy whose motto is, “Move over and let me show you how it’s done”, now needs the support of others in order to “get this fight done”.

Patti, Jaclyn, and Jessica thank you from the bottom of their hearts for your friendship, love, and prayers for David’s recovery.
