About Little Birthday Angles

Little Birthday Angels is a 501c3 registered non-profit community outreach organization serving the Treasure Coast of Florida. We provide birthday celebrations and gifts for homeless children and teens living in our 4 local shelters; Hibiscus Children's Center, SafeSpace, Samaritan Center, and Hope for Families. Recently we have added 2 school districts, Indian River County, and St. Lucie County school districts, providing birthday gifts and essential items to registered homeless children in our local schools. Our mission is to “Celebrate Homeless Children One Birthday at a Time.”

Our Story
In August 2014, Brian and Angel Pietsch, and their two sons, Hunter and Seth, felt a calling to begin this organization after making a donation to a shelter in Indian River County.   It was brought to their attention that there were not enough funds to celebrate monthly birthdays. With many helping hands and generous hearts, Little Birthday Angels was given its wings.

For four years, LBA has joyfully provided birthday gifts and celebrations for “our” homeless children living on the Treasure Coast.  Monthly, we serve over 100 children at our parties held in homeless shelters. Additionally, we have included a birthday program in Indian River and St Lucie County Schools; now serving over 200 individual birthdays a year.

As we continue to have enough volunteers and provisions, we will continue to add more shelters and other opportunities to reach the homeless children that are not fortunate enough to be in a shelter.  To date, we are proud to say that we have celebrated 434 birthday children!

Providing More Than Gifts

LBA provides so much more than birthday gifts. We administer a sense of worthiness and self-esteem to these often overlooked and forgotten children in our community.  There are so many wonderful organizations that gift so much at Christmas time, but most of us have never thought about the rest of the year and ways to make these children feel honored on “their” special day.  The agencies that we have worked with have all admitted the same thing, “We would love to give something special to our children for their birthdays, but we don’t have the additional funds.”  These agencies have to focus on the necessities, and birthdays are a luxury that they are unable to think about, but LBA believes birthdays are not just a luxury, but a necessity that is vital to a child’s sense of worth.

How We Party

Our birthday celebrations begin by connecting with our local shelters.  Our partner contacts will provide the name of who will be celebrating their birthday that following month.  They will inform us of their first name, what age they will be turning, and a wish list.  From there we get busy!  We arrive the day of the party and decorate the party room from top to bottom with colorful decorations, provide games, cupcakes, goody bags, and, of course, birthday presents. All presents include a Bible, new clothing, and items on their “wish” list.

During our celebrations, we not only focus on the children that we are celebrating, but we emphasize the importance of all of the children that live in the shelter as well.  Our motto is “First we love, then we celebrate.”

Monthly, there is so much excitement for these children as they anxiously anticipate a new themed party. With yummy cupcakes, fun games, and amazing decorations. Most of these children have not had the opportunity to even attend a birthday party. Typically, homeless children are not invited to birthday celebrations. If they happen to be invited they most likely would not attend because they would not be able to afford a gift. We not only provide personalized birthday gifts but also goody bags for all the other children in attendance.

Children in attendance will range from infants to 18-year-old teens, so our volunteers take the time to thoughtfully fill each individual goody bag according to the age of each child. Our volunteers remind all of the children that they are valued and that someone does care about each and every one of them, especially on their birthdays.

Community Angels

Currently, we have been blessed by many toys and games for the younger children, but we are in need of gift cards for the teenagers.  They frequently ask for cards to Target, Walmart, Rue 21, Charlotte Russe, Champs, TJ Maxx, Game Stop, ITunes and Staples.  The teenagers really like to shop for their own clothes and other items.  We have a passion for the celebration of each homeless child’s special day, but we truly need your support.  Won’t you consider hosting a drive through your church, school, civic organization, or just group of friends.    Items always needed are goody bag stuffers, gift cards, wrapping paper, juice boxes, party plates and napkins, etc.   Of course, volunteer opportunities are always available.
