In August, Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society is setting the time machine backwards again for another fabulous mini class reunion. On Tuesday, August 28th, the Sunrise Black Box Theatre will be positively vibrating with the sounds of the 1970s, and that includes classics that will instantly transport you to your favorite lighted dance-floor, white polyester disco suit, and that decade when every weekend you seemed to have an incurable case of Saturday Night Fever.
Sure, we’ll still have the classic jazz jam you love for the first hour of the evening as we always do, but on August 28th, we’ll roll up the rugs and the evening will be punctuated with the music of your favorite jukebox which was the soundtrack of your romantic teenage nights. It’s a chance to get in touch with your inner Sunshine Band and “do a little dance, make a little love, and get down tonight,” and we’re betting you still know all the words to I Will Survive, so we won’t even mind if you belt out that classic ‘70s anthem or any of the other memories you’re sure to hear. In fact, we’ll kind of expect it and may reward you with a prize for your enthusiasm. Because it’s summertime, we’ll only be at the Sunrise Black Box twice each month, so why not make the most of those two special evenings with a trip in our musical way-back machine?
Even though these are extra special evenings of music, memories, and magic, the cover charge is still only $6 for members and $7 for everyone else. Best of all, your admission price helps cover the costs of scholarships for young, talented musicians hoping to pursue a career in music, like the eight scholarships we gave out just a couple months ago to area students.
So think about it for a minute or two. Were you bonkers for the Bee Gees? Freaked out for Frampton? Abba-solutely mad for ABBA? Get in touch with your inner Dancing Queen and take her out for an evening of music and memories that will have you feeling like you’re a teenager again.
