Attention seagrass volunteers! Join us for our monthly survey of natural seagrass populations at 9AM at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center and help us document short and long-term trends in seagrass health in the Indian River Lagoon. Be prepared to get wet and please bring closed-toe shoes, mask, snorkel (and weight belt if you have one), appropriate water gear and a change of clothes! Ideally, volunteers will have experience snorkeling and comfortable working underwater as we swim and snorkel up to 6ft. Participants not wearing closed toe shoes will not be allowed to participate for liability/safety reasons.

Join Florida Oceanographic Society for a special presentation of A Plastic Ocean at The Lyric Theatre in Stuart.

A Plastic Ocean is a new feature-length adventure documentary that brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle. Filmed in 20 locations around the world, A Plastic Ocean decuments the effects of plastic pollution - and introduces workable technology adn policy solutions that can, if impletemented in time, change things for the better.

This free screening is in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation's Treasure Coast Chapter.

Free tickets are available at The Lyric Theatre's Box Office.
Open Monday-Saturday 10am - 3pm and 2 hours prior to a performance.

Join us for a 4.5-mile round-trip paddle across the Indian River Lagoon! This annual event starts at the U.S. Sailing Center in Jensen Beach with takeoff at 8AM. Paddle your way across the IRL and stop on Florida Oceanographic’s shoreline for a breakfast of grits and clams with a brief educational presentation by local historians Linda Geary and Indian Riverkeeper, Marty Baum. This is a bring your own canoe or kayak event.
